2013-2014 Abernathy Course Guide

If you want to look at what courses we will be offering for the 2013-2014 school year, click on the link above.  Remember...courses are subject to change based on teacher availability and student demand.

SENIORS-  THE 2013-2014 FAFSA Application is OPEN @ www.fafsa.ed.gov!!!

As soon as your parents get their 2012 tax returns, complete and submit the FAFSA

as soon as you can!!!

Credit by Exam

Students interested in earning credit for a course by credit by exam need to first look in the student handbook for our policies (there are different requirements for student who have already taken the course and students who have not taken the course).  The next two dates we will offer credit by exam will be:

July 11, 2013

October 24, 2013

If a student wishes to try to earn credit by exam, they need to see Mrs. Young to formally request a test at least 30 days before the testing date.  This allows you time to prepare for the test and for Mrs. Young to have time to order the materials and organize the testing sessions.

If a student requests to take more than one test (they are by semester so a student may need to take two tests to get a full year of credit), another testing day may need to be scheduled.  Mrs. Young will determine the day (usually the next day if possible), when you request the test.

Most colleges/universities follow this exemption policy:

TAKS (exit-level) - 2200 in math and/or 2200 in English/Language Arts (ELA) with a writing subscore of at least 3   (Scores good for 3 years from date of test)

SAT - a combined score of 1070 with a 500 on the math and/or critical reading sections (Scores good for 5 years from date of test)

ACT - a composite score of 23 with a 19 on the math and/or English sections(Scores good for 5 years from date of test)

If you did not meet these scores, you need to take a TSI test.  You can be exempt from one test but not another (Example:  You can be exempt from math but need to take the reading and/or writing test because your scores were high enough in math but in reading or writing).  The following link will take you to the South Plains College  TSI Test information page.  This page will give you information on which campuses offer the tests and on which date and what time.  You will also register for the tests on this page.

***You will not be allowed to take a course for college credit for which you are not TSI exempt or have not taken or passed a TSI test*****

Therefore...it is VERY important that you take a TSI test if you need to ASAP!!
