2017-18 School Calendar Revisions

The 2017-18 Abernathy ISD Calendar was recently revised at the AISD Board Meeting. Please delete the previous district calendar and only work from the attached calendar from this point forward.

Here are the highlights of the revisions:
• Graduation has moved! Our AHS graduation is moved from May 25th to May 18th. Please help us spread the word on this revision.
• While teacher days remain at 187 days, the number of student days were reduced by 3-days at the end of May. Last day for students is now Tuesday, May 22nd. We will end the year with a few Staff Development days.
• Our Weather Make-Up day was moved from May 14th to April 2nd. If we do not need to use this weather make-up day prior to April 2nd, staff will get a 4-day Easter weekend.
• Our April 9th Staff Developing/Planning Day was moved to April 16th.

Thanks to all AISD staff involved in these decisions and thanks to our school board for approving these changes. It should work out well for AISD!

Abernathy Elementary School Donates to Hurricane Victims

Abernathy Elementary invited their students and families to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. A group of Hale County constables took several donated items to the Houston area this morning. They had a great turn out and all these items are now on their way to the residents of southeast Texas.

Abernathy Elementary will also be partnering with the Rockport First Baptist Church to send all the help they can muster by September 29th. They will be taking donations such as new/used clean clothes of all sizes, socks, shoes (especially rain boots), blankets, toiletries (deodorant, soap, toothpaste, etc.), non-perishable snacks, ready to eat food with pull top lids, diapers, baby food/formula, bottled water, juice pouches, can openers, battery operated fans, battery powered chargers, batteries, flashlights, pet food, first aid kits, Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, school supplies, and mosquito spray.

They appreciate anything you can give. They will be taking the donations at their AES campus beside the library. Look for the sign that says "Hurricane Harvey Donations." The Houston, Rockport, and surrounding communities are devastated by this tragic event, and by giving these items we can help them recover.

Thank you in advance for your support.

The first class to kick-off the Google implementation was the 5th grade gifted and talented class. The students were Braeden Abell, Yza'Nique Hood, McClendon Miller, Kodi DuBose, Diego Delgado, Brayden Carr, Sidalee Goodman, Alan Macias. They were under the instruction of Megan Teal. As Google becomes more and more prevalent in the education realm, the technology department plans to expand AISD students' access to these effective tools.
