Stronger Than The Storm Campaign

Abernathy ISD is partnering with Orangefield ISD to provide school supplies and monetary donations to aid in their ongoing recovery from Hurricane Harvey.  Orangefield ISD continues to be displaced from their classrooms months after the storm and the Abernathy Antelopes want our new friends in Orangefield to know we have not forgotten the storm or the needs of their students and staff!  Orangefield ISD is located 631 miles (10 hours) southeast of Abernathy near the Texas coast (east of the Houston area).  We encourage anyone interested in joining us in our ongoing relief efforts to drop off school supplies (listed below) at any of our Abernathy ISD campuses Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm.  AISD is closed on Monday, February 19th (President’s Day).  We also encourage you to consider monetary donations with checks made out to Abernathy ISD.  Any campus or central office will receive the monetary donations.  We will ensure every dollar goes directly to Orangefield ISD to meet ongoing needs of their students and staff while they remain displaced.  Thank you for joining us and Orangefield ISD!  Together, we are “Stronger Than The Storm!”

Abernathy FFA Wins Area 1 FFA Tractor Tech Contest

West Texas A&M hosted the state qualifying FFA Tractor Tech Contest this past Friday January 19th. Area 1 ,2 and 4 use this contest for their state qualifying meet. The tractor Tech contest consist of three parts. First is a 100 question quiz to test their mechanical knowledge, 2nd is 20 components to check their ability to evaluate parts for reuse and finally they have to debug a tractor.

Area 1, 2, and 4 is basically all of West Texas. Area 1 Champion was Abernathy FFA with a team consisting of John Nelson, Parker Redwine and Angelo Cantu. Happy FFA, Abernathy FFA # 2 team placed 3rd this team consisted of Nathan Sullivan, Rowdy Huffaker, Arty Lopez and Slade Chisum, Silverton 4th, Shallowater 5th.

Of the 22 teams there the overall placing was Wall, Abernathy, Eastland, Bryson, and Dumas. Only one team per school can advance to the State Contest in Houston so Abernathy 2nd team is not eligible also they would have been fourth overall if they were eligible. Team members from team 2 are eligible to move up to team 1 but only three can compete at State. John Nelson was fourth high individual, and Nathan Sullivan was eighth high individual.

One of the highlights of the day was getting to visit with Mr. Gerald Kelly. Mr. Kelly a retired Ag Teacher from Abernathy stills holds the state record for the most State Champions in Tractor Tech. That’s why West Texas A&M gets him to bug the tractors for them.

The Abernathy Tractor Tech team would like to thank Hurst Farm equipment for all their help.
